FYI: Manually installing drivers is usually not needed under Windows 7 or 10.
FAQ: The LEDs on both ends of the interface do not stay on all the time, only when data is being transferred.
Reminder: JMRI is not an NCE product, therefore we provide limited JMRI support as it relates to our products only.

===================================================
The default settings for the USB interface are all jumpers OFF. 9600 baud / COM port 3. / NCE cab address 3. Windows 10 is 100% plug and play. important: check windows updates and windows optional updates.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few points of interest first:
On the USB board make sure all the jumpers are off. in other words: hanging on one pin or removed completely
- FYI: The LEDS only come one when transmitting data, if one or both are on continuously that is an indication of the problem with the connection on that side of the board.
- The USB board must show up in device manager under ports and have the same COM port number listed in JMRI.
- The COM port number AND speed settings in JMRI must match the settings for the COM port as shown in the Windows Device Manager.
- There is a known JMRI issue in the connection settings to “internal” instead of “NCE” please look VERY carefully at the two status lines on the bottom of the Decoder Pro Screen
FYI: Manually installing drivers is usually not needed under Windows 7 or 10. The USB board is plug and play as long as your PC is connected to the internet. Power on your DCC system first, then your PC. connect the the USB cable from the interface to the computer. Your PC will automatically install the required driver.
Do not attempt to use Windows XP, Vista, Windows 8 or 8.1 with our USB interface. These OS versions are not reliable enough for JMRI and USB usage.
1. If you have already installed JMRI, completely remove it from your computer before proceeding. Then turn off your computer.
2. If the USB board came with the jumpers already installed, remove all the jumpers and set them aside. Do NOT discard.
3. Turn on the Power Cab in the normal fashion by connecting the Power Cab using the flat 6 wire cable to the left side of the Power Cab Panel (PCP). Wait for the red light to come on the panel.
4. Connect the USB interface to the right side of the Power Cab Panel (PCP) or the rear of the panel. Any NCE cab bus cable can be used, a flat 6 wire or coiled 4 wire.
5. Using a standard USB Printer Cable (not included), connect the other end of the USB board to your PC.
6. Turn on your PC.
After you have logged in and the PC has completed booting up go to the Windows control panel / device manager. Look for a section labeled "Ports". Under ports you should see a listing for Silicon Labs CP210x. Make note of the COM port number being used.
To get more information, double click on the item for the Properties window.
On the Properties window, click the Port Settings Tab.
Make sure the settings match the ones listed above, use the dropdown menus to make changes as needed. Save/Apply your changes. Make note of the COM Port being used. Reboot as needed.
You can now install JMRI or your other choice of software. Remember the COM port number the USB board is using as well as the speed settings. The COM port settings in the Windows Device Manager and JMRI MUST MATCH 100% of you will not get correct communication. Note* - FAQ - The LEDs on both ends of the interface do not stay on all the time, only when data is being transferred.
Do not attempt a Windows 10 manual driver installation of any kind without calling NCE first. 9a-4pm M-F eastern time 585-265-0230 ask for Ed. Please be in front of your PC with working internet access before calling for assistance. NCE currently only supports Windows 7 and Windows 10. We apologize but NCE does not have the in house resources to support Apple products. Apple users please contact the online JMRI users group for help at https://groups.io/g/jmriusers/.
