Programming a DCC accessory decoder

Programming a DCC accessory decoder is different from maker to maker but the basic process is the same:

 The device needs to be put into “programming mode”. This is usually done by means of adding or removing a jumper, small piece of wire, or pressing a button. Then you usually have a certain length of time to complete the process before the device times out and stops listening. One important detail is if the board requires you to ENTER programming mode with the power ON or OFF. It can be either one. NCE components are designed to enter and leave programming mode with the power ON.

1. While the device is “listening” you use your DCC system to send out a command to the desired accessory address. On the NCE system this means using “select accy” and entering the number then press enter.
2. You then complete the process by going through the motions of “throwing the switch” by selecting (1 or 2 )  (N or R) on the cab. Does not matter which one.
3. Once the DCC system sends the command out, the new device captures the new address and stores it into memory.
4. The board is now programmed.
5. remove jumper or wire to exit programming mode.
