Read me second - Power Cab USB Interface Driver Download and Installation Instructions

NCE recommends using only JMRI version 4.26 and Java 8.

Install the most recent version of Java 8: https://www.java.com/download/ie_manual.jsp

Then JMRI v4.26- https://www.jmri.org/

FAQ - Windows 10 and 11 have built-in support for the Ch340 chipset driver. Do not install any other driver unless instructed to do so by NCE. If you need to do a manual installation for older USB boards with the CP210x chipset, go here for the driver: https://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/Pages/USBtoUARTBridgeVCPDrivers.aspx

Remove ALL the jumpers.

FAQ - The LEDs on both interface ends do not stay on. The LEDs will flicker when data is being transferred. Do not attempt to install or run JMRI or similar software until the USB board driver and hardware are configured correctly. If JMRI is already installed, remove JMRI and all DCC hardware profile folders created during the installation. You must reinstall JMRI AFTER the drivers and hardware have been verified as working correctly.  In most cases with Windows 7 or 10, manually installing drivers is unnecessary. This driver is for the NCE USB interface board only. The USB board is plug-and-play right out of the package.

Windows 10 users, STOP HERE!

If your PC is connected to the internet, Windows will install the driver automatically. Then check in Windows Device Manager to verify it shows up under Ports. It should look like either one of these.

JMRI is free software in the public domain and not related to NCE in any way, shape, or form. We do what we can for our customers who own the USB board. However, JMRI is only one of many pieces of software used with our USB interface. We link the drivers for the Silicon Labs chipset used on board. The software used with the USB board is up to the end user. Any other information by NCE regarding JMRI is provided as a courtesy only. Questions regarding USING JMRI should be directed to the JMRI user group

JMRI and the USB interface work best on Windows 7 or 10.  Do not attempt to use this configuration with Windows XP, Windows 8, or 8.1.  Screenshots for Windows 7 and 10 are attached to this article. Do not attempt to install or run JMRI or any other software until AFTER the driver is installed and configured correctly. If this has already been done before driver installation, uninstall and remove JMRI and all folders that were created during the installation. Then reboot your PC.

Turn off your PC, and plug in ONLY the USB / PC side of the interface. Do not plug in the NCE cab bus cable side. Windows will attempt to install a driver. To check if the driver is installed correctly, go to Start\Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Device Manager. Look for the Ports section and click on the arrow, and it should look similar to this Windows 7 screenshot:  Either driver will work.

If the driver did not install automatically when you plugged in the USB interface, or if nothing is shown under ports, look for something with a question mark or yellow exclamation point. It might be in a section labeled as "other" or "unknown".

USB troubleshooting
If you have a USB Hub, try removing the USB hub and plugging the USB interface cable directly into your PC. USB Hubs can sometimes confuse matters when installing drivers. Make sure you are plugging directly into the PC. The ONLY valid cab IDs for the USB interface when used with the Power Cab are 3,4, and 5. Most installations will use Cab ID 3 for the USB board unless you have an additional NCE cab connected. The Power Cab MUST be set to the default cab ID of 2.
FAQ - The LEDs on the interface are activity lights; they only stay on when data is being transferred.
Important FYI   ***************
You MUST reboot your PC AND the Power Cab after making ANY change on the board, JMRI, or Windows. Hot swap/plug and play does NOT work correctly with the combination of JAVA, JMRI, and Windows. The settings are only read at startup. ============================================================
