FYI note: The Recovery Program in all NCE systems writes the default factory values for NCE DECODERS ONLY! You can use this method with other decoders but you may get unintended results. Not all manufacturers use the same CVs for the same purposes. Program track mode / Recovery mode is not available in the SB3, SB3a, SB5.
=============================================================
Physical Register Mode (Recovery Mode)
This mode allows you to program a decoder no matter what state it is in. You do not even need to know the address (hence the danger of programming all your decoders at once). It will also work if the decoder's memory has become corrupted.
============================================
If you have a Power Cab - Remove all locos from the track except for the one that needs to be reset.
If you have a 5 amp Ph-Pro system with a Pro Cab, you will need to use the program track output on the right side of the black system box for this.
On the Power Cab / Pro Cab press the program / escape key (PROG/ESC) 4 times - The display should read “sel mode - use program trak“
Press enter
The screen will show 1=STD 2=CV 3=REG.
Press 7
You will see “recovery program? 1=Yes”
Press 1
The display will now count from 1 to 127 then stop
Each time the number changes the loco SHOULD give some sort of a response, usually a small ticking sound, or a small movement. no response means no communication with decoder.
Once the reset is complete, reboot your entire system with the loco still on the tracks
When the system comes back up, press select loco, press 3 , then enter.
Try to flash the headlight multiple times to see if you have communication with the loco
Also try to run the loco on address 3.
