Converting to DCC specifically for slow speed operations

Slow speeds can be somewhat helped by installing DCC decoders and converting to DCC. Note that this is not a DCC STYSTEM setting but rather the settings in the individual locomotive decoders. DCC loco decoders have several settings that can improve slow speeds. However, you need to be realistic in your expectations with regards to some older locomotives. The actual DC motor in the loco might not be capable of satisfactory slow speeds. You will not know for sure until you install a decoder and try it. The gearing, design, quality, and age of the loco will always be a factor.
