The Microsoft Vulnerable Driver Blocklist is a built-in Windows security feature that stops known insecure, malicious, or exploitable kernel-mode drivers from loading. It protects your PC against "Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver" (BYOVD) attacks. [1, 2, 3]
How It Works
- Default Status: Enabled by default on Windows 11 (version 22H2 and newer).
- Integration: Works alongside Memory Integrity / Hypervisor-protected Code Integrity (HVCI) or Smart App Control.
- Updates: Refreshed regularly through standard monthly Windows security updates. [1, 2, 3]
Managing the Blocklist
- Via Windows Security App: Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security > Open Windows Security > Device security > Core isolation details. Toggle the Microsoft Vulnerable Driver Blocklist on or off. (Note: The toggle may be grayed out if Memory Integrity is actively enforced).
